Caribbean Flour Dumplings
I love these little delicious treats. I add this to my soups, stews and even sometimes make it as a side to got with stew salted cod fish, various stews or curried meats. Can be used in multiple recipes. If my recipe calls for dumplings, here it is!
This recipe makes enough if using for soup or stew. If you are making as a side, may want to double the flour. I would use the same amount of salt and cautiously add water until the dough comes together.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions:
- Add Flour and salt to a bowl and mix together until combined.
- Add water a little at a time and use a wooden spoon or your hand to combine the flour and water.
- Once combined, add a little more water and continue to form a dough. I usually use 1/2 cup of water for 1 1/2 cups flour.
- Once all the flour is combined into a dough, use hands and lightly knead the dough. If dough is sticky, add a sprinkle of flour. If dough is dry, add a little water (see picture below).
- Knead until smooth, about 1 – 2 minutes, and form into a ball.
- If you are using in a soup or stew, break out little pieces and roll between palms to form a cylinder (see picture below).
- You can also roll the ball using a rolling pin into a pizza crust like shape and use a knife to cut into little pieces before adding to soup or stew.
- If using as a side, you may want to double the recipe and make larger dumpling shapes.
- Boil in salted water for 10 minutes or add to soup or stew 5-8 minutes before it is done cooking.
